The future of sustainable transport has arrived, and it’s electric! The DAF XD and XF Electric trucks have been crowned the ‘International Truck of the Year 2026’, an incredible achievement that showcases the industry’s shift towards a greener and more efficient future. But here’s where it gets controversial…
The award, given by the International Truck of the Year (IToY) organization, is a prestigious honor, recognizing the vehicle that has made the most significant impact on road transport efficiency. With a range of criteria to assess, including technology, comfort, safety, and environmental performance, the DAF trucks stood out for their exceptional energy efficiency and innovative design.
The jury, consisting of 23 esteemed commercial vehicle journalists from Europe, praised the DAF series for their refined yet powerful performance. The trucks’ advanced technical architecture, long driving ranges, and superior driver comfort were key factors in their success.
Florian Engel, the chairman of the IToY jury, commented on the trucks’ exceptional flexibility, stating, “The modular vehicle concept offers operators a wide range of choices, providing an unparalleled level of adaptability.” He further highlighted the perfection of the drivelines and the seamless gear changes, which contribute to an exceptional driving experience.
And this is the part most people miss… The XD and XF Electric trucks are powered by PACCAR’s advanced e-motors, delivering impressive power outputs while maintaining energy efficiency. With battery packs ranging from 210 to 525 kWh, these trucks offer zero-emission ranges of over 500 kilometers, and with optimal charging, they can even achieve over 1,000 kilometers per day!
Designed for both urban and long-distance applications, the DAF trucks combine excellent aerodynamics with advanced safety features, such as digital camera systems, ensuring a smooth and safe journey.
DAF president Harald Seidel expressed his pride, saying, “This award is a testament to our dedication to driving the future of zero-emission transport. We are honored to have our commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability recognized by such a prestigious jury.”
